Last Friday was my 30th birthday. I must confess that I didn't want to turn 30 however Zach made my day/weekend very special. On Friday I took the boys to my parents for the night and Zach & I attended the Love Worth Fighting For marriage seminar with some friends. If you've never heard of this seminar it is fabulous. Kirk Cameron, best known from Growing Pains and the movie Fireproof, was the main speaker. I wanted to get in line for an autograph since it was my 30th birthday but the evening went so late that I desired sleep more than a signature. Good thing too because I found out they were signing autographs until 1 AM!
Saturday morning I slept in and then we headed to Des Moines for a birthday lunch at Texas Roadhouse. Amazing food! I really enjoyed spending time chatting with Zach and we even had a chance to "dream" a little about our future. Later on I figured out that was a stall tactic for the next event in my day.
I thought we were going home after lunch and I was excited because ISU was playing basketball & I wanted to watch them. Little did I know, Zach had other plans. When we got into Indianola Zach immediately switched lanes so he could be in the left lane. (To get to our house you need to be in the right lane) I thought he remembered we needed groceries but he passed HyVee without a second thought. So then my brain said "he hates being in the right lane because people turning right slow him down." However, when we got to our turn he mentioned that a friend needed to see him out at the church so we turned left and headed to the church. I became a little more suspicious with the left turn but I didn't think he would ever attempt a surprise party because he can not lie to me. I found out that while he can't lie to me, he can withhold information from me. When we turned onto the gravel road to our church I could see all the cars and I knew something was up. When I asked him why there were so many cars at the church he tried to tell me he didn't know. LIE!!! My husband had been planning a surprise party for over a month and all my friends and family were invited! I was overwhelmed when I walked in the door and saw my parents, my brother, old college friends, and all my friends from Indianola. Zach is a thinker and got the whole thing on video so those of you who missed it could see my reaction.
Thank you to everyone who came and for those who wanted to but couldn't. My birthday was so special and one I will always remember as a happy day. Now I know Zach can pull this off so I will be more inquisitive in the future. :)
